On March 19 2015, His Excellency Dr Thomas BONI YAYI, President of Benin, and his counterpart MAHAMADOU ISSOUFOU, President of Niger, officially launched the rehabilitation work on the rail link between Cotonou and Parakou. The ambitious project, which will create many jobs, will be executed by Bolloré Group, which also provides investment as a strategic partner.
On April 8 2014, His Excellency Dr Thomas BONI YAYI and Vincent Bolloré laid the foundation stone for the renovation of the Central Station in Cotonou. Just nine months later, on January 14 2015, the brand new station was inaugurated. The next major step forward will be the rehabilitation of the railway line between Cotonou and Parakou, followed by the construction of a new link between Parakou and Dosso in Niger. To date, 140 km of track between the Nigerien capital and Dosso are nearing completion. The work is part of the enormously ambitious West African rail loop project that will ultimately cover more than 2,700 km, linking Benin, Niger, Burkina Faso, Côte d’Ivoire, and Togo.
“The project mobilises people because it is driven by a diversified consortium, spearheaded by Bolloré Group, whose skills and professionalism are so widely acknowledged. It is also a project that mobilises because it is backed by private sector investment in rail transport”, declared the Beninese Head of State.
The rail loop is a project that mobilises the national governments that are stakeholders in the project and who are determined to work together for the prosperity of their peoples.
MAHAMADOU ISSOUFOU, President of the Republic of Niger, reiterated his determination to see the completion of this inclusive project that will be mutually beneficial for the peoples.
