The renovation of the railway: an opportunity for Benin

The active phase of the rehabilitation works of the railway Cotonou-Parakou-Niamey has begun since June 2. Vehicle for unprecedented investment, this project is a breeding ground for job creation for the benefit of Benin.
When he came and kicked off the work, the President of the Republic of Benin, Dr. Thomas Boni Yayi, welcomed the dedication of the teams and realized that this was a project requiring a large workforce.

“[…] This project has many economic benefits as you already know. You have this local workforce already trained working at the moment; the ties will be manufactured on site; economies of scale with repercussions in terms of economic growth; carriers that will work, existing young people who will be employed, trained in order to absolutely participate in the execution of this mega project which is the project of the century for West Africa “.

At work on the site, about one hundred workers are already busy with the task. As work progresses, other workers from the different localities traveled by train will be recruited and trained. This sub regionally oriented project is a real tool for economic, social and environmental development.

An ambitious project, creator of values. The objective of the work, in its first phase, is the rehabilitation of the railway by laying new rails on the Pahou-Cotonou-Porto-Novo section, 50 km long, and the circulation of an intercity train on this route by December. Eventually, the construction of the Cotonou-Parakou- Niamey axis will be completed.
